Why We Created the Educators’ Business Blueprint
Hey! We’re Tom Schimmer and Natalie Vardabasso.
Our work has always lived inside education, as teachers, leaders, and eventually, independent consultants. Long before creating the Blueprint, we were already working full-time as consultants in the assessment and grading space.
So, when educators began reaching out to ask, “How do I do what you do?” we didn’t have a polished answer.
At the time, we were deep in the busiest season of our consulting careers: packed calendars, weekly travel, finalizing a book, and supporting schools internationally. The idea of launching something new felt unrealistic. And truthfully, we weren’t even sure business coaching was a space we belonged in.
What we did know was this: the answer wasn’t more planning.
As educators, we understand that meaningful learning doesn’t happen in isolation or theory. It happens through responsiveness, by listening closely, noticing patterns, adjusting in real time, and learning alongside real human beings. We learn by doing. That instinct is deeply ingrained in educators, and it serves us well in classrooms, leadership, and consulting work.
And Yet...
When educators step into most business spaces, they’re often told to abandon that instinct. They’re encouraged to write 87-page business plans, post 5 times per day, and to simply monetize everything they can get their hands on and throw it on the internet.
We’ve never believed that approach serves educators.
What we’ve seen (again and again) is that educators don’t need to grind harder. They need permission to tap into their empathy-driven superpowers. They need a way to explore an idea without overcommitting or overbuilding. And they need reassurance that responsiveness isn’t a weakness, it’s actually their greatest strength.
